Who we are

The Greater Manchester Momentum Group is an alliance of international, national and local businesses and organisations that share an interest and commitment to the development of Greater Manchester.

Our members support AGMA's (Association of Greater Manchester Authorities) goal of promoting the growth and prosperity of Greater Manchester. We share its belief that the continued development of the strategic transport infrastructure is important if the region is to achieve its furture potential.

We do not believe the current TIF bid will achieve these goals. Moreover, its key component, the congestion charge would unfairly penalise businesses and their employees as well as hindering investment in Greater Manchester and affecting its reputation as a world-class commercial centre. The bid seems opportunist, based on one method of securing financing for transportation changes in the region.

We call upon AGMA to fully consult with our members and the wider business community to ensure we achieve the transport system our city deserves. We constructively challenge the assumptions and some of the key data upon which the current TIF bid is based. Our manifesto sets out our desire to develop  commercially and environmentally viable alternatives and expresses serious concerns as to why the current scheme is not appropriate.

Above all, we want to work with AGMA to explore a full range of approaches easing congestion. We pledge our support - whether expertise or time - to examine ways in which other cities have introduced innovative and cost effective strategies that benefit the whole community.
